It is not easy to find more promising players in Ghana than James Akaminko of Tema Youth FC. Akaminko, who has played 15 of 18 matches so far this season, all of them as a starter, is a stylish midfielder, comfortable in both a defensive or attacking role. Apparently, Akaminko was on the radar of Liverpool FC last year. Akaminko is born in 1994 or 1995.

After scoring approximately 15 goals for New Edubiase United FC during the GLO Premier League 2009-2010, striker Seidu Bancey gained fame in Ghana. His debut season in Ghanaian top level football was followed by two rather mediocre seasons at Ebusua Dwarfs. However, Bancey succeeded in showing that he is one of few natural goalscorers in Ghana. Bancey joined Asante Kotoko FC before the current season and so far, he has scored four goals in 12 matches, often being used as a substitute. Bancey is a burly striker who holds the ball up well and can finish from almost any angle. He is also a good header of the ball and shows a lot of smartness in the box.

Robert Dabuo, first choice goalkeeper at Wa All Stars FC for several years, decided to join AshantiGold SC during the mid-season transfer window. Dabuo, widely considered as one of the top five goalkeepers in the country, is a consistent goalkeeper who rarerly makes mistakes. He is an excellent shot-stopper and commands his defence with authority. From my point of view, the big question is whether Dabuo will be able to take the number one shirt from Fatau Dauda, the regular goalkeeper of the Black Stars, the Ghana national football team. However, based on Dauda’s excellent performance during the 2013 African Cup of Nations, it seems likely that he will be transferred to a bigger league any time soon. If so, Dabuo will undoubtedly be number one at the Obuasi-based side.

The picture is of Dabuo and was found on Ghanasoccernet.

At the time of writing, attacking midfielder Mohammed Yahaya is top scorer in the GLO Premier League 2012-2013 with 10 goals in 17 matches. Yahaya has been a revelation since joining newly promoted Amidaus Professionals FC on a loan deal from Asante Kotoko FC. Yahaya is the playmaker at the club, dictating attacking moves from a deep-lying midfield role, or playing just behind the attackers. Yahaya is also a set-piece expert and an incredible ball-winner. Yahaya missed out of the 2013 African Cup of Nations due to injury. Yahaya was not a success during his stint in France but I think he will succeed if being given another chance in European football.

After impressing for bottom club Real Tamale United FC, 21-year old Abdul Aziz Yusif joined the Ghanaian powerhouse Asante Kotoko FC. Yusif is a versatile attacker with pace, dribbling ability and a healthy work rate. Yusif was a big star at Real Tamale United FC, a club he also represented during the GLO Premier League 2009-2010, becoming top scorer with approximately eight league goals.
