ogunleyeOn 24.03.2013, Jacob Ogunleye of Sunshine Stars FC scored his first top level goal in Nigerian football. Interestingly, the 20 year old youngster already has an European adventure on his CV.

In 2010, Ogunleye played for amateur club FC Ebedei, based in Ijebu-Ode in South-Western Nigeria. Later the same year, Ogunleye travelled to Denmark to join FC Midtjylland. FC Ebedei is serving as the African football academy of the Danish top level side.

During the 2010-2011 season, Ogunleye played regularly for the reserve team of FC Midtjylland. The up-coming season, Ogunleye struggled with injury. Nevertheless, expectations in Denmark were high. Ogunleye showed a lot of promise in pre-season before the Danish Superliga 2012-2013, scoring in a couple of friendly matches. Therefore, the supporters of FC Midtylland were surprised when Ogunleye decided to travel back to Nigeria during the summer of 2012. FC Midtjylland agreed to terminate Ogunleye’s contract, apparently because he missed Nigeria and his family. Despite spending two years in Denmark, Ogunleye did not feature in any league games for FC Midtjylland.

After his return to Nigeria, Ogunleye joined Sunshine Stars FC. After three matches of the Nigeria Professional Football League, Ogunleye has shown a lot of quality with his speed and dribbling ability. In Denmark, Ogunleye has been described as a player with some fantastic qualities, including tremendous pace and stamina. Ogunleye is primarily an attacking midfielder or winger.

Ogunleye is born 05.10.1992 and he is 170 centimeters. His full name is “Jacob Olayemi Ogunleye”.

From my point of view, Ogunleye is interesting for several reasons. Firstly, Ogunleye was actually about to force his way into the first team of FC Midtjylland when he decided to travel home. Secondly, after a few matches for Sunshine Stars FC, Ogunleye is already a key player. I think Ogunleye is a player to watch closely for the up-coming season.
