OBSERVATIONS:

It’s been an interesting start to the Senegalese Ligue 1 2013. Who would have thought that AS Sucrière, formerly known as CSS Richard-Toll, would win their first three matches? It is also wonderful to see that three promising strikers, who all had a difficult time during the Ligue 1 2011-2012, has shown a lot of promise.

Strongman Thierno Niang of ASC La Linguère, the teenage striker, is definitely a player to watch. After Sérigne Cheikh Diouck left for AS Pikine, Niang could very well become the top striker at the club. Niang faces tough competition from the more experienced strikers Mohamed Remy Gomis (born 24.11.1990) and Cheikh Abass Sané (born 17.03.1990).

Alouise Thiaw joined ASC Niary Tally from Casa Sport before the current season. Thiaw was highly regarded at the Ziguinchor-based club but eventually fell down the pecking order.

Powerful striker Benoit Toupane of Touré Kunda was one of the first players I wrote about: https://westafricanfootball.com/2010/10/08/benoit-toupane. After a couple of poor seasons at AS Douanes, my prediction of a bright future for Toupane could surely be questioned. However, Toupane scored two goals on 26.01.2013 and the change of scenery has obviously done the youngster good. It is too early to write Toupane off!
