OBSERVATIONS FROM THE IVORIAN MTN LIGUE 1 2012-2013

* According to www.afad.ci, the excellent homepage of AFAD Djékanou, AFAD has signed midfielder Pierre Kwizera (born 16.04.1991) from Athlético Olympic Bujumbura. Kwizera is a full international player for Burundi.

* After Week 2 of the MTN Ligue 1 2012-2013, AFAD Djékanou has yet to score a goal. On 10.11.2012, youngster Guy Stéphane Bédi (born 20.12.1995) made a positive substitute appearance, creating a couple of chances. Bédi, comfortable in various attacking roles, was joint top scorer of the 2011 African U-17 Championship in Rwanda, having scored four goals.

* Africa Sports played a good game away against ASEC Mimosas during Week 2, winning a valuable point (2-2). The match showed that big and strong centre-forward Koffi Kan Tobie Olie (born 22.09.1984) will be a key player this season. Olie scored two goals against ASEC; the first a beautiful overhead-kick. Previously, Olie has played professionally at Zamalek (Egypt), AS Salé (Morocco) and Darnes (Libya).

If Olie fails to score, the highly regarded Mohamed Vieira Sanogo (born 31.07.1993) could be a good option. Sanogo is an important member of the Ivory Coast U-20 national football team.

The picture, found on the Facebook-page of Africa Sports, is of goalkeeper Abdoul Karim Cissé (born 20.10.1985). Last season, Christian Fabrice Okoua (born 06.11.1991) was preferred between the sticks. This season, I predict a good season for the athletic Cissé, formerly of Issia Wazi FC.

Kouassi Nicaise N’Goran (born 08.02.1988) and Soumaila Belem (born 19.05.1991), the full international player for Burkina Faso, will most likely be preferred in central defence. New signing Madi Gbogoua (born 25.07.1987), formerly of AFAD Djékanou, is a good option.

Africa Sports has signed Antoine N’Gossan (born 30.11.1990), an attacking midfielder or winger. N’Gossan, who featured for SO Armée last season, was a highly regarded youngster while playing for ASEC Mimosas. After some poor seasons, N’Gossan will need to get his career back on track.

* SO Armée has signed goalkeeper Adama Cissé (born 31.12.1991) from ASEC Mimosas. Cissé will fight experienced Guyan Kanté (born 05.01.1982) for the number one shirt.

* Last season, midfielder Pascal Seka Monnet played third level football at Yopougon FC. During the summer of 2012, Monnet was picked for the Ivory Coast U-20 national football team. On 09.11.2012, Monnet scored his first ever top level goal for his new club SO Armée.

* Simon Kangoh is an attacking midfielder and one of the star players at SO Armée. Some of the qualities of Kangoh can be viewed in the following clip:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=Py8UepUtVE4

According to the video, Kangoh is 168 centimeters and 62 kilos and was 22 years old in April 2012.

* A player called “Hervé Kouassi” or “Hervé Kouassi Blé” has scored goals for SO Armée in both

Week 1 and Week 2. I am currently trying to find more information about this player.

* In 2009-2010, Ghanaian attacking midfielder Daniel Adjei Boateng (born 20.11.1988) played two matches for KSK Beveren at second level of Belgian football. Boateng will feature for ASEC Mimosas during the MTN Ligue 1 2012-2013.

* As previously mentioned, Ghanaian striker Bernard Arthur (born 10.08.1994) is one of the exciting, new players at ASEC Mimosas. In the following clip, you can watch some of the qualities of the youngster:

http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a5MWlAVtVLE&feature=related

* ASEC Mimosas has signed the towering Philippe Okan Agoussi (192 centimeters) from SO Armée. According to the Fédération Ivoirienne de Football, Okan Agoussi is born 23.12.1995. However, according to the official homepage of ASEC Mimosas, he is born 05.06.1992. Okan Agoussi was a trialist at Norwegian top level side Lillestrøm SK in January 2012 and Norwegian newspapers wrote that he was 19 years old at the time, making 05.06.1992 a likely birthdate.

* USC Bassam has signed experienced striker Didier Bohui Zirihi (born 05.07.1984) from Jeunesse Club d’Abidjan. Bohui Zirihi, who failed to score last season, scored his debut goal for USCB on 10.11.2012 against ASEC Mimosas

* Mamadou Keita (born 07.12.1990), a central defender or defensive midfielder, is one of the key players at USC Bassam.

* Striker Ismaël Sy Savane (born 26.12.1986), formerly of AS Denguélé, has joined ES Bingerville. On 09.11.2012, Sy Savane scored his first goal for his new club.

* According to unconfirmed sources, central defender Robert Sankara (born 18.02.1985) has joined AS Denguélé. Sankara, a full international player for Burkina Faso, played 18 matches (one goal) for ASEC Mimosas last season. If this transfer has actually taken place, it is a big surprise to me.

* Last season, AS Denguélé struggled for goals. Fans of the club will be happy to see that both Zoumana Koné (born 27.10.1991) and Moise Valery Zegbe (born 28.04.1984) have already opened their scoring accounts for the new season.

* Jean Francis Kassi Malan of SC Gagnoa is the current top scorer of the MTN Ligue 1 2012-2013 with three goals in two matches. Newly promoted SC Gagnoa has made a wonderful start to the new season. The team has several experienced players, including Kassi Malan, striker Jean Serge Sery Dogo (born 01.02.1981), signed from ASC Ouragahio, and striker Lébé Gnahoua, formerly of Africa Sports. According to unconfirmed sources, SC Gagnoa has also signed striker Franck Dali Okahué (born 16.07.1984), formerly of ASEC Mimosas, and midfielder Roland Diby, formerly of Stade d’Abidjan.

* Nigerian striker Olaolu Adebayo, who played for Gateway FC in the Nigeria National League 2012, has joined SC Gagnoa. Adebayo scored his debut goal on 10.11.2012 against AS Denguélé.

* Bommanin Peggy Kohouo, the powerful striker of Jeunesse d’Abidjan, opened his scoring account for the new season on 10.11.2012 against Séwé Sport.

* Djibril Traoré is a powerful defensive midfielder at newly promoted CO Korhogo. The following video shows some of his qualities: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=01ybKyume4s.
