Central defender Davis Donald Kodia of Séwé Sport de San Pedro has been one of the revelations of the Ivorian MTN Ligue 1 2012. The season recently ended with Séwé Sport winning their first ever championship title and Kodia was an important member of the team – despite being only 19 years old.
There is not much information to find about Kodia. My first record of the player is from the Ivorian MTN Ligue 1 2011. Kodia forced his way into the first team, playing both league matches and matches in the 2011 CAF Confederations Cup.
The MTN Ligue 1 2012 proved to be the breakthrough season for the towering defender. Kodia played regularly for Séwé Sport, scored his first and only top level goal on 15.08.2012, and was also named in the squad of the Ivory Coast U-20 national football team towards the end of the season. He also gained experience from the 2012 CAF Confederations Cup.
Kodia played for Ivory Coast U-20 against Benin U-20 on 05.08.2012 in a qualifier for the 2013 African Youth Championship. Ivory Coast U-20 lost 0-3.
Kodia has been described as a “rock” in the heart of the Séwé Sport defence. He has attracted bigger clubs during the season and I expect the youngster, who can also play as a defensive midfielder, to be a household name in Ivorian football during the next couple of years.
The name of Kodia is sometimes written “Davis Donald Kodja” or just “Davis Kodja”.
The picture of players from Séwé Sport de San Pedro was found on MTN Football.
