Bendel Insurance FC, based in Benin City in southern Nigeria, has traditionally been a big club in the country. According to the official homepage of the Nigeria National League, Bendel Insurance FC ended the season as number 5 in “Division D”, scoring 19 goals in 16 matches. I have found the scorers of all these goals.

The star player of the team is arguably captain Prince Isuku. Isuku became top scorer with seven goals.

Bernard Ovoke is another exciting player at Bendel Insurance FC. Ovoke, who scored two goals during the season, trained with the Nigeria U-23 national football team in November 2011. Ovoke has been described as a skillful left-winger while other sources describe him as a utility player, suggesting that he can play in several attacking roles.

Striker Chisom Akunebu (born 08.11.1992) showed a lot of quality during the season. Akunebu is a former player of amateur club FC Internazionale Enugu, famous for having nurtured talented players such as goalkeeper Anthony Chinedu Udeh (Heartland FC), midfielder Emeka Francis Atuloma (Dolphins FC), midfielder Emeka Christian Eze (Rangers International FC) and attacker Obinna Stephen Nwachukwu (Heartland FC). Akubebu has been described as a “mobile and speedy striker” who “packs powerful shots in both legs” and is “very strong physically”. Akunebu scored two league goals during the season. Prince Aggreh, Stephen Itseumah and Daniel Ohonbamu are other interesting attackers at the club. Dennis Osaigbovo is one of the key defenders of Bendel Insurance FC.

Other players I have noticed include Nure Nureni Braimoh, Prosper Edewhor, also a talented futsal player, Prince Maurice, Robert Irhiaye, Bello Ikeleji, Matthew Osaghae and Franklin Okafor. Okafor was training with the Nigeria U-23 national football team in October 2011.
