According to http://www.nigerianationalleague.com/, Akwa Starlets FC ended the season as number 3 of 9 teams in “Division C” of the Nigeria National League 2012. I know that Akwa Starlets FC was one of the sensations of the season and their fine position was a surprise to many. The club scored 10 goals during their 16 matches. I’ve been able to find the scorer of nine of these goals.
The top scorer of Akwa Starlets FC was Utibe Archibong, who I believe is an attacker. Archibong scored at least three of the 10 goals. Godwin Sunday scored at least two of the goals.
In defence, Akwa Starlets FC has two experienced performers; Kola Awe and Francis Onyegbula. Awe is a utility defender, formerly of Bayelsa United FC and Dolphins FC. Onyegbula has played for JUTH FC and Akwa United FC. Walter Peter is another player with top level experience, formerly of JUTH FC. Nicholas Joseph is an interesting player at left-back.
In midfield, veteran Ochuko Ojobo (born 01.04.1985) is an interesting player. Ojobo played professionally for FK Metalurh Donetsk (Ukraine) in 2005-2006. His former clubs include Dolphins FC and Akwa United FC. Midfielder Johnson Otene was part of the Akwa United FC team that won promotion to the Nigeria Premier League last season. Emmanuel Amah and Joseph Bassey are two other midfielders in the squad.
Other key players include Koko Ekpenyong, Victor Obiowo and Martins Okudili. I have also noticed Udo Etuk and Moroof Salami.
Personally, I won’t be surprised is a couple of the players mentioned plays at top level of Nigerian football next season, most likely for Akwa United FC.
