On 26.09.2011, the Ghana Football Association published the squads for the GLO Premier League 2011-2012, which will kick off on 09.10.2011. I have gone through the squad of Aduana Stars FC and made some observations:

* My first observation is: who on earth will score the goals for Aduana Stars FC this season? Both top scorers from last season, Nurudeen Ali (five league goals) and Joseph Mugri (four league goals), have left the club. As far as I can see, these players have not been replaced with proven scorer. I guess the star player Bernard Don-Bortey, who seems to be somewhat unsettled at the club, and left-winger Daniel Darkwah, who I think will have a major breakthrough this season, will have to chip in with more goals this season.

* On the positive note, Aduana Stars FC has a remarkable consistency in their side. Their first-choice goalkeeper is still Stephen Adams (although the talented Celestine Damptey is breathing down his neck) while central defenders Emmanuel Akuoko, Johnson Adomah and Gabriel Opoku-Ware provides a massive defensive wall. Godfred Saka is the brilliant, regular right-back, while Francis Larbi is the left-back. I think it’s fair to say that the defensive strength of Aduana Stars FC is the best in the league. The picture is of the star goalkeeper Stephen Adams and is taken from Ghanasoccernet.

* Aduana Stars FC has been involved in the GHALCA Glo G8, a pre-season tournament, earlier this month, and young striker Daniel Gozar has apparently been rather impressive. I think Gozar will get a fair number of chances this season and this could be a player to look out for.

* Adams Bannor, formerly of FC Takoradi, is a skillful and attacking right-winger. Being only 17, Bannor will most likely be a fringe player, but he could very well make some headlines already this season.

* Alex Aryee and Joseph Bentil are both listed as “Players under the age 23 category” by the Ghana Football Association. Bentil was listed with the birthdate 20.06.1987 at when he was part of Eleven Wise FC in 2008-2009. Aryee, also known as “Alexander Nii Aryee” was part of Liberty Professionals FC as early as 2003.

Known players in the squad:

Name Position D.O.B. Nat.

Other players in the squad, according to the Ghana Football Association:

Asante Aikins, Appiah Ansu, Richard Ansu, George Asomani, Kofi Atambire, Richard Arhin, Stephen Baffour Asare, Kwasi Boakye, Enock Boateng, Isaac Donkor, Siaka Musah, Ebenezer Otu, Mustapha Quainoo, Owusu Yakubu, Gordon Yeboah.

* The other players listed in the squad are unknown to me but I have some ideas. Richard Arhin is possibly the former striker of the Red Bull Academy, born 09.11.1991. If so, this is a very interesting acquisition. Ebenezer Otu could be Ebenezer Otu Tetteh, formerly of Berekum Chelsea FC. Tetteh, a central defender or midfielder, is born 08.03.1991 and was part of the Ghana U-20 national football team for the African Youth Championship 2011 in South Africa. I doubt if the Isaac Donkor listed is the same Isaac Donkor (born 16.11.1991) who played for Liberty Professionals FC in 2010-2011 and is a former star of the Ghana U-20 national football team. However, there is no “Isaac Donkor” listed as a Liberty-player this season. Kwasi Boakye is most likely “Akwasi Boakye”, a player born 25.04.1991.

* Left-winger George Mills (born 06.11.1989), formerly of International Allies FC, was on the bench for Aduana Stars FC during the GHALCA Glo G8. However, Mills has not been named in the official squad.

* Besides Mugri and Ali, Aduana Stars FC has not lost very important players before the new season. Veterans Francis Aduhene, Ashmond Asamoah and Kwame Frimpong have apparently left the club but these were not regular players during the GLO Premier League 2010-2011. Other players that left include Joseph Dabitora and Anthony Tawiah.

* I think Aduana Stars FC could struggle this season and end up in a mid-table position. It’s hard to see where the goals will come from although I doubt they will concede more than 20 goals in 30 matches. Watch out for winger Daniel Darkwah.
