Pape Macou Sarr of ASC Diaraf is arguably the most exiting attacking midfielder in the Senegalese Ligue 1. Don’t be surprised if this young player becomes a key member of “Les Lions de la Teranga”, the Senegal national football team, during the coming years.

The first time Sarr made headlines was during the Ligue 1 2009. Sarr forced his way into the first team of ASC Diaraf and made several performances despite his young age.

Sarr played for the Senegal U-17 national football team during the season and also made his debut for the Senegal U-20 national football team.

In September / October 2009, Sarr was part of the Senegal U-20 national football team for the Jeux de la Francophonie 2009, played in Beirut, Lebanon. According to the official squad list published before the tournament, Sarr is born 25.07.1991. This could very well be incorrect as Sarr uses the date of birth 02.01.1992 on his own Facebook-page:

This page also contains some good pictures of the talented player.

On 27.12.2009, Sarr scored the only goal of the final match of the “Coupe nationale du football 2009”. ASC Diaraf won 1-0 against ASC Cambérène and Sarr made a perfect finish to a wonderful season.

The Ligue 1 2010 was somewhat of a breakthrough from Sarr. Sarr became an established member of ASC Diaraf, a team that eventually won the league. Sarr also played several matches for the Senegal U-20 national football team, including qualifiers for the Orange African Youth Championship.

Sarr was one of the players considered for the Senegal B national football team for the Orange African Nations Championship (CHAN). The tournament was played in February 2011 in Libya but Sarr was not part of the final Senegal-squad. However, in March 2011, Sarr was included in the squad of the Senegal U-23 national football team. Sarr played for Senegal U-23 against Angola U-23 on 26.03.2011.

Sarr has been a regular member of ASC Diaraf during the current season, the Ligue 1 2010-2011. He has played 9 of the 12 first matches so far this season, scoring his first league goal on 05.03.2011 against ASC Dahra.

Sarr also has experience from the Orange CAF Champions League 2011. ASC Diaraf has so far knocked out Gambia Ports Authority(Gambia) and Djoliba(Mali) but after 0-5 against Espérance Sportive de Tunis last week, the fairytale will most likely soon be over.

Sarr is described as a “playmaker” or the typical attacking midfielder. He has also played some matches as a left-winger and is well-known in Senegal for his excellent left-foot. Sarr has never been very dangerous in front of goal but is more of a provider, often turning matches around with flashes of magic. Sarr possesses good technical abilities and dribbling skills.

The “word on the street” is that Sarr is already on the radar of several European clubs, including Lille OSC(France)
