SPECIAL REPORT – BUKOLA BABES FC

Bukola Babes FC, a modest football club from Ilorin in Western Nigeria, won promotion to the Nigeria Premier League at the end of the 2009-2010 season. At the time of writing, Bukola Babes FC are currently on a sensational fourth place in the 2010-2011 Nigeria Premier League. The team consists of several young, talented players that are being linked to bigger clubs. Here is a short presentation of some of the players that has been standing out so far this season.

FADE ADEBAYO

The current captain of the team has scored in two consecutive matches, against Kwara United FC on 15.01.2011 and against Crown FC on 23.01.2011. The goal against Crow FC was a beautiful free-kick at the edge of the box. Adebayo’s full name is Moronfade Christian Adebayo. Not much is known about this player but he was part of the team that won promotion at the end of the 2009-2010 season.

STANLEY AIGBE

Aigbe is described as a gifted ball winner.  Also known as Osas Stanley Aigbe.

ABDULLAHI GANNI ALI

Ali scored for Bukola Babes FC in Round 8 against Gombe United FC on 22.12.2010, apparently a contender for “Goal of the season”. Also known as “Ali Gandu”.

KADIR AMINU

Kadir Aminu, also known as Abdulkadir Aminu, was apparently the top striker for Bukola Babes FC when they won promotion after the 2009-2010 season. He has yet to make his mark during the current campaign.

AKEEM AUDU

Talented striker, most likely born in 1991. Audu has been described as one of the revelations of the season, despite having only scored once so far. The goal was scored on 27.11.2010 against Enyimba FC when Audu apparently reacted faster than every other player in the box during a goalmouth scramble. This was actually the first ever goal scored by Bukola Babes FC in the Nigeria Premier League. In December 2010, several newspapers published a report about Audu’s plans to further his academic studies at the University of Ilorin. In the same report, it was stated that Audu had been with Bukola Babes FC since 2006 after featuring for amateur sides “Diskaborg” and “Royal Sports Academy”. He was an important member of the team that won promotion at the end of the 2009-2010 season. His full name is Akeem Audu Abayomi.

SURAJ AYELESO

Ayeleso started the season as first choice goalkeeper of Bukola Babes FC. In December, Ayeleso injured his toe and James Aiyeyemi took over the gloves. Ayeleso will have to work hard to retain his position as Aiyeyemi has been highly impressive. The full name of Ayeleso is Surajudeen Ayeleso Olaiwola. According to Football Talents, Ayeleso is born 10.09.1986.

JAMES AYIEYEMI

Goalkeeper Ayieyemi, also known as Kehinde James Ayieyemi, has actually kept four clean sheets in the four last matches played by Bukola Babes FC. The inexperienced goalkeeper was regarded as second choice before the season, but is he manages to keep his current form he will most likely become the number one goalkeeper at the club.

ABDULRAHMAN BASHIR

Abdulrahman Bashir has been a sensation this season and already has four league goals to his name. He has been described as a petit, hard-running striker with a massive work-rate. Bukola Babes FC team manager Aloy Chukwuemeka has called Bashir a “goal-a-game striker” and “a talent for the very near future”. I have also read several more objective reports, hailing Bashir as an outstanding player in the Nigeria Premier League. He was referred to as a “teenager” in January 2011 and is forming a youthful, inexperienced but highly dangerous striking pair with Akeem Audu. Apparently, the current season is the fourth at Bukola Babes FC for Bashir.

Several clubs are reportedly interested in signing Abdulrahman Bashir, including Warri Wolves FC and Enugu Rangers FC.

Bashir was named in the “Team of the week” in the 12th round of the Nigeria Premier League.

EFFIOM OTU BASSEY

Bassey is a winger, comfortable at both left-wing and right-wing although he prefers the left due to his excellent left-foot. Bassey is apparently a former player of UNICEM Rovers FC (also known as Calabar Rovers FC). According to Football Talents, Bassey is born 22.08.1987, apparently in Cross River State in southeastern Nigeria. Several media reports before the season implied that Bassey would become a key player for Bukola Babes FC this season.

Bassey was named in the “Team of the week” in the 11th and 12th round of the Nigeria Premier League and is apparently on the wishing list of several bigger clubs in Nigeria. He has scored two goals in the 2010-2011 Nigeria Premier League.

DANIEL ESSIEN ETOR

Etor is a left-sided midfielder / winger who has been linked to bigger clubs, including Niger Tornadoes FC. His name implies that he is Ghanaian although this is yet to be confirmed.

SAMSON EVIKA

Evika is described as a gifted ball winner.

ALEX OLUWASEYI FABIYI

Former captain of Bukola Babes FC. Also known as “Alex Seyi Fabiyi” and “Seyi Ifabiyi”.

ISMAILA GATA

Striker who scored for Bukola Babes FC in Round 8 against Gombe United FC on 22.12.2010.

CLETUS PROMISE JAMES

Arguably one of the stars of the current Nigeria Premier League. James played for OUK FC Umuahia at second level of Nigerian football in 2009-2010 and his performances earned him a place in the squad of the Nigeria national B football team James joined Bukola Babes FC before the season and stood out after few matches, impressing against Kano Pillars FC in Round 2 on 13.11.2010. In December, James was profiled by MTN Football as a “Rising NPL Star”. James was described as “an all-action right wingback” with superb work rate, good shots and crosses and great ball skills. He is a modern type wingback who loves to join the attack or deliver pinpoint crosses to the attackers. The article implies that James is born in 1991. According to Football Talents, James is born 30.05.1985. I have a theory that 1991 is correct year of birth.

James is apparently a big transfer target for Warri Wolves FC and Niger Tornadoes FC. James was named in the “Team of the week” in the 12th round of the Nigeria Premier League.

VINCENT OGAR

Utility player who was a key performer for the team that won promotion at the end of the 2009-2010 season.

KINGSLEY SALAMI

Salami is a central midfielder who has been impressive this season. He is apparently on his way to Enugu Rangers FC. Salami is also known as Ebiagbo Kingsley Sakami.

Sogbesan has also been referred to as “Seun Shogbeso”, “Bisayo Seun Sogbeso” and “Bisayo Seun Sogbaso”. Several media reports before the season implied that Sogbesan would become a key player for Bukola Babes FC this season.

Midfielder who is born 07.11.1989 according to Football Talents.

ABUBAKAR YUSUF

Yusuf is a left-back who was named in the “Team of the week” in the 9th round of the Nigeria Premier League. Apparently he was captain of the team in this match.
