The Senegalese Ligue 1 2010-2011 started last weekend. In this post, I will present information about the matches and the goalscorers.

ASC Dahra 0-0 CSS Richard-Toll

ASC Dahra – Macodou Diouf (GK), Mohamed Sène, Alphonse Seyni Camara, El Hadji Mody Manga, Mamadou Kane, Ibrahima Soumah, Cheikh Sène, Fidel Gomis, Jean Luc Mansah, Abdoulaye Sanou, Abdou Gueuneun. Substitutes: Ibra Ndao, Serigne Diouf.

CSS Richard-Toll – Mohamed Salzman (GK), Ferdinand Gomis, Walter Frederick Bandiaky, Sidy Ndiaye, Mame Assane Diagne, Idrissa Niang, El Hadji Ndiaye, Amadou Fall Hane, Damao Diatta, Boubacar Toumany Diop, Modou Bassene. Substitutes: Alpha Oumar Diallo, Yahya Cissokho.

Based on this information, I think it is rather obvious that CSS will have a stronger season than the last one. Striker Damao Diatta, arguably one of the best players in the local league, has joined from Casa Sport, together with central midfielder Amadou Fall Hane (born 08.09.1985). At the time of writing, I am not sure whether “Sidy Ndiaye” is the same Sidy Ndiaye that played for AS Douanes in 2010, born 07.07.1987. The central defender is highly regarded and has been a key player for Senegal B the last years. CSS have also retained key players like defender Ferdinand Gomis, frequently member of Senegal B in 2009 and 2010, top striker and captain Boubacar Toumany Diop and Mame Assane Diagne, one of the best left-backs in the country.

ASC Dahra is a newly promoted side consisting of rather unknown players to me. Goalkeeper and captain Macodou Diouf was actually backup-goalkeeper for CSS last season.

ASC Diaraf 1-1 ASC HLM

The Diaraf-goal was scored by star striker Abdou Khadre Dieylani Fall, born 09.07.1989, who I presented in my post from 03.11.2010. Dieylani Fall will reportedly join AJ Auxerre from France in January. Other players that took part for Diaraf was captain Djibril Sidibé, a central midfielder who is a key player for both his club and the Senegal national B team. First-choice goalkeeper, the towering Mamadou Ba (born 08.05.1985), was apparently out injured and veteran Ousseynou Ndiour (born 18.03.1971) stood between the posts. Youngster Babacar Seck played at left-back.

The hero for ASC HLM was young and very talented defensive midfielder Mamadou Dièye (born 10.11.1991). Other players that tool part for HLM was newly signed striker El Hadj Nfamady Cissokho, joining from Renaissance Sportive de Yoff and a goalkeeper called Saloum Diop.

Casa Sport 1-0 US Gorée

Casa Sport, as always one of the favorites for the title, started the season on a winning note. The lone goal was scored by Alouise Thiaw who is an exciting prospect. Thiaw has mostly been regarded as a “super-sub” for the last couple of seasons but I expect him to have a more prominent role this season due to the rather shocking departure of star striker and captain Damao Diatta, who joined CSS Richard-Toll. Alouise Thiaw is born 24.08.1990 according to, Thiaw is born 24.08.1990. However; according to an article from Walfadjri, Thiaw was 21 years old when he started to make a name of himself in October 2009. Interestingly, he was also included in the squad of Senegal U-20 in September 2010. According to the same article in Walfadjri, Thiaw scored four league goals in 2009 which I believe to be true. He scored three goals in 2010 according to my statistics. Thiaw is described as a lively attacker that that can make a difference in the last minutes of any match.

Other players that I can document that took part in this match was central defender Mame Saër Thioune (born 21.12.1989), still the pillar of the central defence as well as two rather unknown US Gorée-players called Antoine Ndiaye and Mouhamed Ndoye.

AS Douanes 0-0 ASC Jeanne d’Arc

Douanes-striker, Assane Kane, signed from UCST Port Autonome, had the biggest chance of the match. Kane was a key player for Port for several seasons and also a member of Senegal B in 2008 and 2009.

Guédiawaye FC 1-0 ASC Yakaar

Ibrahima Birame Coundoul, born 15.08.1988, scored the only goal of the match. Coundoul is the captain of GFC and arguably their most important player.

US Ouakam 1-0 DUC

The match-winner was veteran-striker Pape Koukpaki who is actually one of the best beach-soccer players in Senegal, participating in the FIFA Beach Soccer World Cup in 2007 and 2008. Koukpaki is born 02.04.1979.

ASC La Linguère 2-2 Touré Kounda

The most entertaining match of the first round was also the first match ever at highest level for Touré Kounda. Their first goal was scored by one of the hottest strikers in Senegalese football, 1993-born Pape Moussa Konaté. Konaté, a regular member of Senegal U-20, will most likely join a bigger league when he turns 18 next year. The other goal for Touré Kounda was scored by Mamadou Thiam, a striker signed from Stade de Mbour. Central defender Ahmadou Diallo is also a new signing from Stade de Mbour, where he was captain and key player. Pape Mahmoud Mbeguere also took part in this match for the newly promoted side.

Sérigne Cheikh Diouck scored both goals for Linguère, a striker born 03.12.1990. Diouck was top goalscorer in the league in 2009 but had almost the whole 2010-season destroyed by injuries. Diouck has participated for Senegal U-17, Senegal U-20 and Senegal B and is a player to look out for. Khadim Ndiaye, the goalkeeper born 05.04.1985, is still between the posts, as he also is for the Senegal national football team. Arguably the best goalkeeper in Senegal. Samba Gueye, the experienced defender born 04.01.1985, also took part in this match.

ASC Niary Tally 0-0 AS Pikine

No information is yet to be found regarding this match.
