In July 2010, the Nigeria Football Federation invited a total of 35 players to the camp of the Super Eagles, the Nigeria national football team, for their international friendly against the Republic of Korea in Seoul (played on 11.08.2010, Nigeria lost 1-2). One of the players listed was Femi Emmanuel Balogun of Kaduna United FC, a rather unknown player for the average Nigerian football supporter. Kaduna United FC, currently number 13 in the Nigeria Premier League, is a club from Kaduna in north-central Nigeria, unfortunately a part of the country where football information is hard to find, although things are improving. In this post I will write down the information I have on this exciting prospect.

Femi Emmanuel Balogun, mostly referred to as Femi Balogun, is an attacker, often used as a left-winger. He is small in stature but known for his pace and technique. As far as I know, Balogun made his debut for Kaduna United FC in 2007-2008, when the team played at second level, however won promotion to the Nigeria Premier League.

On 14.09.2008, Balogun played for the Golden Eaglets, the Nigeria national U-17 football team, against Benin in a qualifier for the CAN U-17. Based on the other players who played in this match, Balogun should be born in 1992 or 1993.

The upcoming season, 2008-2009, was Balogun’s first in the Nigeria Premier League and as far as I know, he scored one goal during the season.

Balogun scored two goals for Kaduna United FC in 2009-2010, against Dolphin FC in Round 18 and against Lobi Stars FC in Round 24. The team ended in a mid-table position.

On 15.08.2010, Kaduna United FC won the Federation Cup 2010, beating Enyimba FC after a penalty-shootout (full time score 3-3). According to several sources, Balogun scored the second goal for Kaduna United FC, although other sources claim that the goal was scored by Yusuf Siman. Nevertheless, Balogun made an impressive performance at the left wing.

Although there is not much information to be found about Balogun, it is obvious that Femi Emmanuel Balogun is a player to watch.
