SPECIAL REPORT – LIST OF SCORERS IN THE NIGERIA FOOTBALL LEAGUE 2009-2010 (PART THREE)

KWARA UNITED FC

9 goals – Sibi GWAR – attacking midfielder born 09.09.1987. Formerly of Lobi Stars FC and Enyimba FC.

9 goals – Morufu YUSUF – key player who is also known as “Moroof Yusuf”. Member of Nigeria B in 2008 and Nigeria U-20 in 2007. Formerly of Lobi Stars FC.

6 goals – Yusuf JAIYEOLA – attacking midfielder born 11.11.1984. Former key-player for Julius Berger FC.

5 goals – Nasiru ALI – a skilful and pacy attacker who has been with Kwara United FC for several seasons.

4 goals – Soga SAMBO – striker born 05.10.1985, formerly of Mamelodi Sundowns FC in South Africa. Played 3 matches for FC Inter Turku in Finland during 2008. Key player and a good bet for the top goalscorer award for Kwara the coming season.

3 goals – Ukeyima AKOMBO – tall center forward born 25.11.1987. Played professionally for GIF Sundsvall of Sweden in 2008 and 2009, as well as a stint for IFK Mariehamn in Finland. Scored for Kwara United FC in Round 19, 20 and 21.

3 goals – Isiaka OLAWALE – the veteran is a workaholic midfielder that covers the entire pitch with his powerful running. Former captain of Lobi Stars FC. Born 11.11.1983.

1 goal – Sani AMODU – unknown player to me.

1 goal – Philemon DANIEL – defensive midfielder and key player of Kwara United FC, born 20.03.1986. Signed from Niger Tornadoes FC where he played for several seasons.

1 goal – Lukman IJAYA – experienced striker born 21.07.1986, formerly of Shooting Stars FC from Ibadan.

1 goal – Irolo SAMUEL – attacker, formerly of Warri Wolves FC, Sharks FC and Enugu Rangers International FC.

1 goal – Kabiru SANUSI – experienced striker who was top goalscorer for Kwara in 2008-2009 when they won promotion

LOBI STARS FC

8 goals – Victor BARNABAS – talented striker who played for Akwa United FC in 2007-2008 and 2008-2009.

5 goals – Moses BUNDE – one of the revelations of the seasons. Also known as Bunde Hungwa. Was named in a Super Eagles preliminary squad before the friendly against South Korea this summer. Was apparently a trialist at Vitoria Setubal of Portugal in September.

4 goals – Terfa ABAYA – experienced attacker who has been with Lobi Stars FC for at least six years.

3 goals – Blessing OKARDI – organizes his team from the centre of the midfield. Small midfield maestro born 05.11.1988. Played for Nigeria U-20 in the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2007. Was suspended for a year by the Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation for assaulting match officials in a league game against Enyimba in February 2010. Has apparently signed for Kwara United FC before the new season.

2 goals – Son HINGIR – signed from Anambra United FC (second level) before the season and was an immediate success, being named as “Best Rookie” of the league in December 2009. Was suspended for a year by the Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation for assaulting match officials in a league game against Enyimba in February 2010.

2 goals – Adamu MOHAMMED – unknown to me but member of Nigeria B in 2010. Probably the same player that impressed for Gombe United FC in 2008-2009 and was nicknamed “Drogba”.

2 goals – James OKWOSAH – central defender who was a surprise inclusion in the Super Eagles-squad for the match against Mozambique in October 2009, a qualifier for the World Cup.

1 goal – ABWU – the goalscorer against Gombe United FC in Round 32 is unknown to me.

1 goal – AMINU – the goalscorer against Ranchers Bees in Round 33 is unknown to me.

1 goal – John GAADI – the goalkeeper of Lobi Stars FC scored a penalty goal against Enugu Rangers in Round 5. Gaadi is an experienced goalkeeper, born 03.03.1982. Formerly of Gombe United FC, Enyimba FC and Wikki Tourists FC. Joined Sunshine Stars FC in the middle of 2009-2010.

1 goal – John GEORGE – defensive midfielder and an important member of the team. Was named in the preliminary squad for the FIFA U-20 World Cup in 2007. Was suspended for a year by the Disciplinary Committee of the Nigeria Football Federation for assaulting match officials in a league game against Enyimba in February 2010.

1 goal – KANU – the goalscorer against Shooting Stars FC in Round 7 is unknown to me.

1 goal – Ikechukwu OKEMMIRI – right-winger, formerly of Nasarawa United FC.

1 goal – Ismaila SULEIMAN – rock-solid defender who has been a regular for Nigeria B the last years. Formerly of Dolphins FC.

1 goal – UDOH – the goalscorer against Niger Tornadoes FC in Round 38 is unknown to me.

NIGER TORNADOES FC

16 goals – Eugene SALAMI – promising striker who was a sensation this season, being runner-up at the top goalscorer-list, behind wonderboy Ahmadu Musa at Kano Pillars FC. Has been linked to several foreign clubs, including Westerlo (Belgium), Maccabi Haifa (Israel) as well as Egyptian sides. Please note that most other sources state that Salami scored 17 goals. This could very well be true but I am only able to document 16. Salami was part of Nigeria U-20 in 2008 and played for Lobi Stars FC in 2007-2008. Known for his clinical finishes.

3 goals – Austin EKPOMA – unknown player to me.

3 goals – Simon SHEHU – attacker, formerly of Gombe United FC.

3 goals – Samuel TSWANYA – talented defender who can play at both left-back and right-back. Member of Nigeria U-20 for the last couple of years.

2 goals – Musa ABDULLAHI – important striker who scored 9 goals in 2007-2008 and was part of Nigeria U-20 in 2007.

2 goals – Abdulrasheed AJAGUN – petit and pacy striker / right-winger, born 27.05.1983. Formerly of Nasarawa United FC.

2 goals – Chinedu JUSTICE – talented player who was part of Nigeria U-20 in 2009.

2 goals – Usman MOHAMMED – unknown player to me.

2 goals – SULE – the goalscorer in Round 18 against Zamfara United FC and Round 23 against Ranchers Bees FC is unknown to me.

1 goal – Ben ADAMS – has played for Tornadoes for the last three seasons.

1 goal – Wahab AFOLABI – midfielder, formerly of Lobi Stars FC. Part of Nigeria U-20 in 2008.

1 goal – BALA – the goalscorer against Gateway FC in Round 27 is unknown to me.

1 goal – GUNDUMI – the goalscorer against Ocean Boys FC in Round 15 is unknown to me.

1 goal – MOHAMMED, L – the goalscorer against Kaduna United FC in Round 33 is unknown to me.

1 goal – OCHEI – the goalscorer against Zamfara United FC in Round 18 is unknown to me.

1 goal – Own Goal against Enyimba FC in Round 10.

OCEAN BOYS FC

6 goals – Amakiri GEORGE – striker that was apparently sacked by Warri Wolves after 2008-2009. Formerly of Sharks FC.

4 goals – Ifeanyi EDE – member of Nigeria U-20 in 2009. Scored 4 goals for Ocean Boys in 2008-2009.

2 goals – Iboro AKPAKPAN – the goalkeeper has scored a couple of goals from the penalty spot. Has been with Ocean Boys for the last three seasons.

2 goals – Emmanuel ENIZE – scored 4 goals in 2008-2009 and 1 goal in 2007-2008.

2 goals – Ayo SAKA – has been hailed as one of the finest central midfielders in the local football of Nigeria and has been included in preliminary squads for the Super Eagles the last months. Some sources reported that Saka had signed for Heartland but this is not confirmed. Formerly of Union Bank FC.

1 goal – CHIDOZIE – the goalscorer against Bayelsa United FC in Round 16 is unknown to me.

1 goal – Bola LEKAN – the midfield general of Ocean Boys, born 10.10.1988.

1 goal – Chimezie MBA – unknown player to me.

1 goal – NKORO – the goalscorer against Gateway FC in Round 34 is unknown to me.

1 goal – Charles OMOKARO – veteran striker born 25.11.1984, formerly of Bendel Insurance FC, Sharks FC, Enyimba FC, Akwa United FC and Heartland FC.  Member of Nigeria U-23 in 2002.

1 goal – Kester UWELUYI – experienced attacker born 25.09.1984, formerly of Lobi Stars FC, Bendel Insurance FC and Sharks FC.

Seven goals are missing – two goals in Round 30 against Zamfara United FC, one goal in Round 32 against Heartland FC, one goal in Round 36 against Bayelsa United FC and three goals in Round 38 against Ranchers Bees FC.
