At the time of writing, youngster Charles Etoundi Eloundou is one of the hottest prospects in Cameroonian football. Eloundou, a versatile attacker, is playing for Unisport FC, based in Bafang in Cameroon’s West Province.
My first record of Eloundou is from November 2009 when he was included included in a training squad for the Cameroon U-17 national football team. At the time, Eloundou was playing for an amateur club in Mfou. In 2010, Eloundou moved to the Cameroonian capital Yaoundé and joined third level side AS Fortuna. Eloundou continued to represent Cameroon U-17 during 2010 and 2011 and was one of the stars of the team that participated in the 2011 UNIFFAC Cup.
After the tournament, at the end of 2011, Eloundou joined Unisport FC. He made his debut in the MTN Elite One during January 2012 and scored his first and only top level goal on 12.02.2012 against Astres de Douala. In May 2012, Eloundou represented the Cameroon U-20 national football team in the 2012 Cape Town International Challenge. Eloundou scored one goal during the tournament, against Kenya U-20 on 30.05.2012. In July and August 2012, Eloundou starred for Cameroon U-20 against Sierra Leone U-20 in two qualifiers for the 2013 African Youth Championship. Eloundou scored in both matches. His solid performances for Cameroon U-20 earned him a place in the squad of the Cameroon B national football team for the 2012 Nehru Cup, a football tournament in New Dehli, India. Eloundou was one of the youngest members of the team and despite being mostly used as a substitute, he showed a lot of quality.
Eloundou can play on both wings, as a striker or as an attacking midfielder. He is not the tallest of players, probably about 170 centimeters, but is strong and well built. His main force is his pace and skills and Eloundou always seems dangerous when he takes on defenders. He works hard and is very energetic.
The birthdate of Eloundou is currently unknown. Based on the fact that he represented Cameroon U-17 for two years, it seems likely that he is born in 1994 or 1995.
I have a good feeling about Eloundou. This is a player that has been nurtured by the Fédération Camerounaise de Football for almost three years. He has played in international tournaments against strong opposition and while playing for Cameroon U-20 he has shown that he has an eye for goal. I predict a bright future for Charles Etoundi Eloundou.
