THE TALENTS FROM AFAD DJÉKANOU

AFAD (Académie de Football Amadou Diallo) from Djékanou had a wonderful first season in the Ivorian Ligue 1 MTN – the top level of football in the Ivory Coast. The club, which consists of several talented young players, became number six in the league, which few experts had predicted.

Naturally, scouts from all over the world have noticed their success and this summer the talented midfielder / winger Ogou Edmond Akichi (born 24.04.1990) joined French top club AJ Auxerre. I personally think others will follow Akichi to Europe and in this post I will give a short presentation of some of the players who stood out during the season.

ELOGNE ARNAUD AMON

Elogne Arnaud Amon, sometimes referred to as Euloge Arnaud Amon, is arguably the most important attacking player of AFAD. According to my sources, he scored six goals in the Ligue 1 MTN 2010, although he scored only five according to the official site of “Federation Ivoirienne de Football”. In any case, he was the top goalscorer of the team. Amon is born 21.02.1991 and actually plays alongside his twin brother – defender Betio Gerard Amon Natchia. Amon played for CO Korhogo at second level of Ivorian football in 2009. He was very much part of the impressive run of CO Korhogo in the 2009 “Coupe Nationale” when the club reached the semi-final. In September 2009, Amon was included in the squad of Ivory Coast U-20 and bigger clubs knocked on the door. Amon decided to join ambitious and newly promoted AFAD in early 2010. Amon is both described as an attacking midfielder and a center forward. He was named in the squad of Ivory Coast B in October 2010 and is definitely a player to watch.

MADY GBOKOUA

One of the revelations of the season. Mady Gbokoua, sometimes referred to as Madi Gbogoua, is a central defender, known for his strong tackles and rock-solid performances. He has recently made his way into the squad of Ivory Coast B, being part of the CECAFA-squad who is competing in Tanzania in November / December 2010. Gbokoua is the captain of AFAD and a key-player. The date of birth of Gbokoua is still unknown to me. His full name is Mady Constant Romuald Gbokoua.

HENRI JOËL KOUADIO KONAN

Kouadio Konan has only recently turned 17 (born 21.10.1993) but has been on my radar for some time. He was part of Ivory Coast U-17 in late 2008 and member of Ivory Coast U-20 during 2009. He was also named in the squad of Ivory Coast U-20 during this summer. Kouadio Konan is a defender / midfielder and made his debut at top level of Ivorian football during the season.

CLOVIS TAHOUROU

The goalkeeper, born 25.12.1989, was widely regarded as the best goalkeeper of the season. Tahourou is a remarkable quick goalkeeper with great reflexes and a somewhat arrogant style of play. Tahourou is no newcomer in Ivorian football as he played for ES Bingerville in 2008 and top club ASEC Mimosas in 2009. He did not succeed in becoming first choice at ASEC and joined AFAD before 2010. Tahourou has been an important member of Ivory Coast B during 2010 and played regularly for Ivory Coast U-20 between 2008 and 2009. His full name is Ikossie Clovis Tahourou Yangele. According to some sources Tahourou is born 25.12.1991, but at the official pages of FIFA, 1989 is given as correct year of birth.

One of the stars of Ivory Coast U-17 in 2004 and 2005.
